David Shein, LCSW, CADC
Concentration: Individual, Couples and Group Therapy related to: substance use disorders; process addictions; corporate mental health and wellness; executive coaching; life goals/skills development and implementation; relationships (couples, family, workplace); anxiety; depression, anger; self-esteem; shame; grief and loss; and, crisis intervention.
David Shein, MSW, LCSW, CADC, uses a collaborative, compassionate, and strengths-based approach, with each of his clients. When developing a treatment plan, David believes in leveraging a client’s self-knowledge, and will always meet clients where they are emotionally, cognitively, physically and spiritually. David incorporates critical thinking, humor, music, literature, media, and sports in his therapeutic work, and integrates a variety of evidenced-based treatment interventions to address behavioral health issues, including: Motivational Interviewing (MI); Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); Twelve-Step Facilitation Therapy (TSF); and, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Prior to joining Midwest Counseling, David worked at Hazelden Betty Ford Chicago as a therapist. His responsibilities included: counseling individuals in a one-on-one setting; facilitating process groups; conducting psycho-education lectures; and, co-facilitating the organization’s Family Program, which involved therapeutically working with the parents, spouses, and partners of patients enrolled in treatment services. Before joining Hazelden, David held various roles in the addictions treatment field at organizations including Harborview Recovery Center in Chicago and Hanley Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.
In addition, David has over fifteen years of experience as a marketing executive in “Corporate America,” holding leadership positions with several top public relations firms in New York City and Chicago.
David, who is originally from New York, received his Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from Loyola University Chicago, and he holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. David is also a State of Illinois licensed social worker and certified drug and alcohol counselor.
